Supercross 2022 Transportation Impacts


On May 7, the Utah Sports Commission and Feld Entertainment, Inc., will host the Monster Energy AMA Supercross finals at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Events of this nature require adequate space — therefore, roads and parking lots surrounding the Stadium will be closed or impacted during and leading up to the event. University students, faculty and staff members traveling near the Rice-Eccles Stadium should prepare for the following transportation impacts.

 

ROAD IMPACTS

Starting May 4 at 5:00 a.m. to May 7 at 5:00 a.m.

  • All westbound lanes on 500 South (from Guardsman Way to 1300 East) will be closed.
  • There will be a lane shift on 500 to allow motorists access to eastbound and westbound traffic.
  • The north and south sidewalks along 500 South will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.

On May 7 at 5:00 a.m. to May 8 at 12:00 a.m. (RACE DAY)

  • All east and westbound lanes on 500 South (from Guardsman Way to 1300 East) will be closed.
  • Guardsman Way (from 500 South to roughly 592 Guardsman Way) will be closed.
  • All sidewalks on 500 South will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.

Starting May 8 at 12:00 a.m. to May 9 at 12:00 a.m.

  • All westbound lanes on 500 South (from Guardsman Way to 1300 East) will be closed.
  • There will be a lane shift on 500 to allow motorists access to eastbound and westbound traffic.
  • The north and south sidewalks along 500 South will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.

On May 9 at 12:00 a.m. to May 10 at 6:00 a.m.

  • The outer westbound lane on 500 South (from Guardsman Way to 1300 East) will be closed.

Traffic signage and equipment will be in place to direct vehicle traffic during the closure periods. Road closures will not impact emergency vehicle routes

 

RACE DAY WESTBOUND DETOUR OPTIONS

On race day, May 7, Guardsman Way will be closed to through traffic all forms of transportation. Cyclists and pedestrians can avoid the impacted area by utilized the following path through the V.A. Hospital Campus and Sunnyside Park. For those utilizing the UTA bus system, plan your trip here.

Commuters wishing to exit or enter campus have the following options.

  • OPTION 1: South Campus Drive eastbound or westbound to either 1300 East or Mario Capecchi.
  • OPTION 2: Utilizing Mario Capecchi Drive and Foothill Drive to bypass the impacted area.
  • OPTION 3: Utilizing North Campus Drive to bypass the area completely.

PARKING IMPACTS

  • The Guardsman Lot (Lot 40) will be closed from May 2-7.
  • The south portion of the Stadium Lot (Lot 1) will be closed from May 2-3.
  • The Stadium Lot (Lot 1) will be closed from May 4-7.
  • The Law Lot (Lot 2), Chemistry Lot (Lot 4), Library Lot (Lot 5), Marriott Library Lot (Lot 6) East Stadium Lot and ACC Garage (Lot 45) will be reserved for VIP or staff parking on May 7.
  • All other lots on main campus be serve as general parking for guests on May 7.

PUBLIC SAFETY

There will be an increased police presence during the event to direct traffic at all major thoroughfares into the University of Utah campus. In addition, police will be in and around the stadium during the event, then back out into the surrounding areas to direct traffic as the event end. They will be responsible for all traffic and the public safety of the guests, staff, and neighbors before, during, and after the event.
