Appeals
APPEALS PROCESS
The parking appeals office encourages those who believe they were parked within the rules and regulations at the time a ticket was issued to submit an appeal along with supporting documentation.
Any appeal process must be started online within 20 calendar days from the date the ticket was issued and prior to paying the ticket. All appeals must have a valid justification. Unacceptable justification for an appeal includes, but is not limited to:
- Could not find a legal place to park.
- Could not afford a permit.
- Did not know the regulation.
- Only parked there for a short time.
- Other people were parked illegally.
- Previously parked in the same place and did not receive a ticket.
- A department forgot to provide parking arrangements.
- Was running an errand and/or doing business with or for a department.
- Someone said you could park there.
- Did not see the sign.
Violations in disabled parking spaces and (red) fire zones are not eligible for appeal. Any appeal that includes obscene, disrespectful, or threatening language will be turned over to the Dean of Students and/or an employee’s supervisor and HR representative.
If you are a current or previous affiliate of the University, you must use your University ID (uNID) to log in via the 'Student/Employee Login' to appeal a ticket.
AFTER THE FIRST APPEAL
After receiving a response to your appeal, you have 10 calendar days to request the Parking Appeals Committee review your case. The Parking Appeals Committee is a group of student, staff, and faculty volunteers that meets to review exceptional cases. To request a review, please follow the instructions included on the second page of the appeal response letter. You will be added to the queue and receive notice when your case will be reviewed by the committee.

UNPAID TICKETS
Student: Students with three or more outstanding tickets will be referred to the Office of the Dean of Students. A hold will be placed on the student’s record preventing the student from registering for university courses, receiving transcripts, and their diploma. A representative from the Office of the Dean of Students will contact individuals with outstanding tickets to discuss further actions.
Faculty & Staff: Tickets that remain unpaid after 30 days will be garnished from the employee’s paycheck.
Collections: Vehicles not associated with a current student, faculty, or staff will be sent to a third-party collection agency and a collection fee may be added. If not paid through collections, the university is a state institution and has authorization to garnish state income tax.
